Dr Catherine Fernando

Dr Catherine Fernando studied at Aberdeen Medical School, graduating in 2001. She currently works a sessional GP in East Lothian, Scotland. Catherine trained in General Medicine and Rheumatology, achieving the MRCP UK examination prior to becoming a GP. Having gained several diplomas in women’s health and child health, she has recently developed a special interest in Dermatology, completing the Diploma of Practical Dermatology with Cardiff University in 2022.  

She is a mother of 4 children aged 8-15 years and the founder and CEO of IYASU Medical Bags, a company which supports girls’ education around the world.  She loves her job as a GP in a small town and very much enjoys teaching. She also has experience of being a patient and a cancer survivor, having been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma as a junior doctor aged 22.
