Trauma-informed general practice

19 Nov 2024
Clinical Auditorium 3
Mental health

Trauma-informed practice' is a term which is increasingly referred to in policy and in practice. This session will explore the nature of trauma and the neurobiological and psychosocial effects of the toxic stress response. Being trauma-informed brings the consideration of past experiences - especially adverse childhood experiences - into the interactions and relationships with patients. This understanding is illuminative in appreciating how people who have experienced trauma behave and respond, and how we can modify our practice to improve their health and care.
